Migraine treatment with neurotoxins (BTX)

The neurotoxin botulinum toxin A is not only used for aesthetic wrinkle treatment. Chronic migraine is a multifactorial disease that typically manifests itself as severe headaches, nausea, sensitivity to light, aura and/or dizziness. Since BTX inhibits the messenger substances in the body that contribute to muscle contraction, it is also suitable for having a prophylactic effect against such chronic migraine attacks or at least reducing their frequency. Injecting BTX into certain head and neck muscles reduces the muscle tension that causes migraines. Migraine treatment with BTX can represent an alternative to oral drug therapies, especially for those affected who suffer from migraine attacks at least 8 days a month and who have not yet been helped with other treatment methods.
